"GMC Breakthrough Engineering in Action" - 1964 GMC pickup magazine ad headline
The advertising copy went on: "V6 truck engine built to shrug off abuse of extra-heavy farm loads. Huskier pistons, thicker camshaft, bigger bearings... they all mean more miles of work, less dollars for repair. V6... only GMC Trucks have it!"
Motor Trend offers some more historical perspective: "1960 model year brought the arrival of the Chevy C10 series trucks, succeeding the 1955-59 Chevy Task Force series trucks. With the introduction of 1960s styling, Chevy C10 trucks were the first Chevy and GMC pickups equipped with independent front suspension (IFS), which replaced the non-independent straight axle found on Chevy and GMC trucks from 1959 down."
Offered here is a restored 1964, GMC 1500 Pickup in two-tone silver-and-sea-green over light tan. A factory 4x4, this is a largely original, properly refreshed and lifted California truck. Its odometer reads 17,993 miles.
The exterior color combination is unique and appealing: The silver roof (and GMC lettering on its tailgate trim) works very well over the sea-green cab and cargo box. This was clearly a professionally applied re-spray. The finish is uniformly glossy, and the deep green nicely accents the horizontal body lines of the truck. The only flaws are small areas of surface rust on the drip rails. Otherwise, the truck's exterior is virtually free of damage. Significantly different from, and preferred by many old-truck fans over the Chevrolet pickup grille at the time, the GMC front grille-here in beautifully maintained chrome above the chrome bumper-has both style and simplicity. Other chrome trim shows quite well for its age. The truck's rear bumper silver-painted steel diamond-plate. The finish on the wood-slat floor in the cargo box wears patina from age; its refreshed metal trim is painted in the body color. Black-painted, steel, 25-inch wheels (including the spare) are mounted with BFGoodrich® Mud-Terrain T/A tires.
The truck's interior has been refreshed with the dash, door trim (and jambs), and underside of the cabin roof painted light-gold, a handsome compliment to the body color. Seat upholstery combines tan, vertically pleated vinyl with green trim. The upholstery is free of damage or signs of serious wear. The truck's stock steering wheel frames the straightforward instruments surrounded by metal trim showing age-related patina. The shift lever for the 4-speed manual transmission is floor-mounted alongside the 4WD transfer-case selector lever. Floors feature rubber mats.
Under the hood, the 305-cubic-inch V6, wearing its proper orange block paint, occupies a clean and well-organized engine bay. The underside of the hood, the firewall, and the inner fender walls have been painted in light gold matching the cabin-interior color. Hoses and wiring appear properly routed. Viewed from below, the chassis is complete and undamaged; rust-inhibitor coating protects most metal surfaces. The lift system appears properly installed.
The truck's original identification plate remains as mounted at the factory.
While the more than 125 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '64 GMC Pickup in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.
This Jimmy checks a lot of the right boxes: It's a classic design. It's a factory 4x4. It's nicely refreshed. It's set up for any-terrain operation. Maybe best of all, it won't be mistaken for one of the overly optioned, cushy-comfort-at-all-costs, they-all-look-alike "modern" pickups.

Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.
For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.
For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
