    Description

This component was used for playback of CD-4 vinyl records. These albums were specially mixed in 4 channel format requiring a Shibata Stylus on a a moving magnet or strain gauge cartridge…however Shure stated their M75 ED, with its .2x.7 mil elliptical will also work.
This Panasonic and the Technics SH-400 are The Only units that will work with their Strain Gauge cartridges, which use a semi-conductor instead of a magnet; the benefit…much higher trackability vs mm. There is a switch on the back to delineate the two.
I tested the MM section and it’s good. It acts as a phono preamp, so just connect to a line-in, you don’t need a phono input.
I was not able to play through the SC but there was output gain and the input was microphonic by touching a finger shorted screwdriver to the L&R inputs.
It looks to be a ‘Salesperson’s Demo; there are no scuffs or scratches. It’s old, probably from the mid-late 70’s.
There might be real value here if you’re experimenting with strain gauge or as an upgrade to your current rig.
As with all electronics I sell on eBay, this is unconditionally guaranteed to exceed your expectations.
